In 2016, Leigh G. Krehling transitioned from a nearly two-decade career in advertising to become the Community Relations Officer at Opelika City. In this role, she oversees public information initiatives, encompassing media and public relations, marketing communications, special events, and digital/print publications. Her efforts ensure accurate public information dissemination, fostering awareness and support for city ventures. Collaborating with the mayor, city administrator, and department heads, she refines marketing and community engagement practices. Krehling manages the city's online presence, including the website and social media, and handles media planning and procurement. In emergencies, she collaborates with the Lee County Emergency Management Agency as part of the Public Information Officer Task Force. Active in Opelika's cultural and social scene, Krehling contributes to Opelika ArtHaus, United Way of Lee County, and Public Relations Council of Alabama Chapter. She is affiliated with professional associations such as 3CMA and the National Information Officers Association, holding a role on the Government Committee. Moreover, Krehling volunteers with Opelika Chamber of Reach Campaign and Governmental Affairs Committee. She earned a B.A. in Corporate Journalism with a minor in Public Relations from Auburn University in 1995.
