Our Mission
United Way of Lee County brings organizations and resources together to meet urgent needs, support local nonprofits, and strengthen the East Alabama community.
Our Vision
An East Alabama where every neighbor knows where to turn for help, needs are met with action, and every local nonprofit is equipped to serve our community well.
Our History
United Way of Lee County has a rich history rooted in community collaboration. It began in 1953 with the Auburn Inter-Club Council, followed by the establishment of the Community Chest of Opelika in 1955. In 1988, these two organizations merged to form the United Way of Lee County, with Jude Peterson serving as the first Executive Director. After Jude’s retirement in 1997, Becky Benton stepped into the role, leading the organization for 25 years. In 2022, following Becky’s retirement, Tipi Miller was named Executive Director, continuing the legacy of leadership and service in Lee County.
