Linda North

Linda North is currently the Dean of Academics for Southern Union State Community College in Opelika, Alabama. She has administrative and teaching experience in the community and technical college level in addition to the university setting in Alabama and Georgia. Dr. North received a Bachelor’s in Nursing from Troy State University, a Master’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, an Educational Specialist Degree from Troy State University in Montgomery and her Ph.D. in Administration of Higher Education from the University of Alabama.  The focus of her doctoral research has been adult learning and effective teaching in the community college setting. Prior to accepting the position at Southern Union, Dr. North served as Associate Dean of Academic Affairs for Instructional Design at Alabama Southern Community College. During her tenure at ASCC, she developed an interest in learning strategies and student success which motivated her research into learning styles, learning theory, and effective teaching across disciplines. Her experiences are varied, including presentations related to teaching and learning at the state and national level, authoring a chapter in a nursing textbook, and authoring a National Science Foundation Handbook for Project Investigators for grants. She has designed and taught traditional classes, hybrid classes, and online classes. She is the Past Chairman of the Board for The Opelika Chamber of Commerce.
